Vexar Tree Planting Tubes Available

Courtesy of the Jackson Small Woodlands Association

Over 5,000 vexar tubes are available through the Jackson Small Woodlands Association.  Tubes are 30” tall and 3.25” or 4” in diameter.  Minimum purchase is one bundle of ten tubes.

Costs Jackson Small Woodlands Association members pay $0.10/each ($1 per bundle of 10)

Non-members pay $0.20/each ($2 per bundle of 10)

This is a huge savings over the warehouse price of $0.26 to $0.32 each!   And you have to buy lots and lots to get this price.

All revenues go to the Jackson Small Woodlands Association!

To get tubes, call Jud Parsons, 773-4860 THROUGH DECEMBER 15.  After December 15, contact Max Bennett at the number below.

Several folks have asked this question in response to yesterday’s email.  Vexar tubes are rigid seedling protector tubes, primarily to protect against deer browse.  Here is the Forestry Suppliers, Inc blurb and picture. )

Rigid Seedling Protector Tubes

Constructed of tough yet flexible UV inhibited polyethylene and polypropylene material. These diamond mesh tubes protect young seedlings from nibbling intruders for up to five years. Allow young seedlings to grow and slowly photodegrade once seedlings have grown to a point of establishment. For best results, install tubes at time of planting and cover entire seedling. Allow 10" to 12" of tubing to extend above tree to compensate for later growth and tree top protection. Install optional bamboo stakes with each tube for support. Stakes sold separately.

MyCommunityMatters.net Shows How Much!

The Giving Spirit

The holiday Season is upon us once again and with giving and sharing being a major theme to the season, I wanted to bring to the attention that this giving and sharing can carry on throughout the year. While you may be considering holiday donations and give away I would like to bring your attention to a service that has the giving spirit year round as its basis and built into its core mission.

MyCommunityMatters.net was founded in 2004 to fill a need in our community for a “Good internet provider to buy from.” We based our model on giving away as much money as we can every month and keep our doors open. Our mission statement is “to provide high quality internet services while supporting local community organizations”.

Our projections show we will have given away over $700 at the end of this year.  As of the current writing of this article we will be giving away over $50 for the month of November. This is a very exciting mark for us because it means we are on our way to making considerable contributions within our community.  We continue to grow at a slow and steady pace, helping community organizations like Klamath Siskiyou Wild lands Project (KSWild), Women’s Crisis Support Team (WCST), Southern Oregon Adolescent Study and Treatment Center (SOASTC), Grants Pass Area Habitat for Humanity (GPAHH).

So far (through October) we have given these organizations:

SOASTC: $228.00

KSWild: $214.00

Women's Crisis Support Team: $180.00

Grants Pass Area Habitat for Humanity $4

Our program is simple. When someone connects to the internet using one of our connection services the organization of their choice will receive two dollars every month. If you have any questions about our Donation Program please contact us at 541-846-0456

Happy holidays and a wonderful winter to you.

Women Helping Other Women

Looking for others to join!

W.H.O.W. - What a great idea!

For  the last seven years a group of local women have been getting together to help each other with everthing from housecleaning to fence building.  The group calls itself WHOW (Women Helping Other Women) and has created a simple bookkeeping system to keep track of who has helped and who has received help.

The beauty of the system is that pay-back does not have to be helping the same women who helped you - all work debits and credits belong to the collective labor bank .  This keeps scheduling very flexible!

The group meets every 4 to 6 weeks for a pot-luck and planning of work parties at Thalia Truesdell's home between Ruch and Applegate, but attendance not required to make arrangements (you just miss the fun!).

It is also not neccessary to work for others before requesting a work party of your own.

WHOW invites other capable, caring women to join the fun, work and companionship.
The next meeting is Monday, October 9th @ 6:30
For more info call  Karen 899-7928 or Sioux 846-7736, or email Lucia at  riverhome541@charter.net

Welcome to the New Applegate Valley Website!

As you will see, this is a very new website with many areas still under construction. Athough there is much work to be done, we feel that there is enough valuable information to go "live".

Areas of the site currently containing useful information include Local Events, Businesses, Featured Business, and Yard Sale (an interactive bulletin board).

We are continuing to develop the local business directory listed under Businesses, but the information currently available should be valuable.

This site is sponsored by the Applegate Valley Business Association (AVBA) and was created by local business owners. It will be further developed and maintained by numerous volunteer individuals from the Applegate Valley who love the valley and its residents as much as I do.

We welcome your comments and ideas for the site and we hope local folks as well as visitors to our unique and beautiful valley find the site interesting and useful. Please return often to check our progress!

Thanks for your support,

Tiffany Ryan
